Strickland's Daddy Blog

Hi, I’m Strickland – the new guy!  When my wife, Sarah, and I were making the decision to move to Asheville from Michigan, one of our big considerations was “where will our new baby be delivered?”

When we heard about The Baby Place at Park Ridge Health, we had to check it out.  As you know, Ken has spoken highly of he and his wife’s experience there, and as we continued to do some homework on The Baby Place, we continued to come across new parents who either said “We’re so glad we delivered at The Baby Place” or “We WISH we would have delivered at The Baby Place.”

The decision has been made.  We’re delivering at The Baby Place at Park Ridge Health!  And, just like they allowed Ken to share with you his family’s experiences, I’m excited to be able to introduce you to my family and share our experiences!

Welcome to my Daddy Blog!

'Miracle Light' Baby Found Alive After Being Declared Dead, Placed in Morgue

I'm not even sure what to say about this.  Just the thought that something like this could happen... unimaginable.  Yet, it's such good news.  I mean, I think it is.  Right?  I'm so conflicted!!

BLOG 3/27/12: The Biggest Loser

Occasionally, Madison likes to teach us new exercises. Tonight, while swinging her arms in circles and yelling "No Pain, No Gain!" she accidentally punched Brennan in the shoulder. He's very proud of his accomplishment.

Daddy and the Kids

One random night (or morning)... daddy gathered up all the kids and mom snapped a quick picture before they started crying or pulling each other's hair.  The result... beauty.

New Camera : New Pics

We thought it'd be appropriate to funnel some tax refund money into a new camera, in order to take more pictures of the kids, whom we have to thank for the tax refund.

BLOG 2/21/12: THE TRIP

It's hard to call it 'vacation' since Michigan is home, and vice versa, it's hard to say that vacation has ended, since every day in Asheville is like a vacation. In any case, we have concluded our trip to Michigan and successfully returned to Asheville with the van that we left behind 8 months ago. We were starting to run out of time; Sofia is getting bigger and all 3 kids aren't going to fit in the back seat of the Jeep for very much longer.

So, GPS says roughly 10 hours between Asheville and Durand, Michigan, where Grandma and Grandpa (mom & dad) live. After 10 hours on the road, we stopped to stay the night in Sidney, Ohio. Sidney is about 4 hours from Durand. What should have been a 10 hour trip and would have been a 14 hour trip, had we continued on non-stop from Sidney, officially became a 24 hour trip. That's traveling with kids!

Speaking of... At one of our last potty stops, Sarah took Sofia into a bathroom to change her diaper. When she set Sofia's carseat down, the diaper bag slid off her arm and landed on the upper part of Sofia's body. Specifically, her head. Sofia did not like this. We weren't able to tell where it exactly it hit her because there was no visible mark. Sarah felt bad but all seemed well, until about 40 minutes after we got home, when Sofia projectile vomited.

Sarah was really feeling bad and so she called the doctor's office. I tried to be optimistic and contend that Sofia was just not feeling well after having been in her seat for so long, then eating, and then swinging in her swing (which she severely missed) once we got home. But, the nurse suggested that "just to be safe" we bring her in to the ER. So, to Park Ridge we went.

The doctor, Mr. T, was ultra nice. And, as it turns out, he's from Michigan! He was born in Lapeer and lived in Alma. He said that he had wanted to wear the MSU scrubs that his daughter bought him but they are a little too big. Another great visit to the Park Ridge ER. Long story short, Sofia is ok.

Tons of pics from vaca are coming!

Truth: Perception vs. Reality

Add 2 more and a dog and you've got our bed.

KID TALK

ME: Brennan, how did you sleep? BREN: Poopy. ME: Madison, how did you sleep? MAD: Good. ME: Did YOU sleep good, Sofia? SOF: [vomit]

(Note: Sarah will qualify this by saying 'Spit up. Not vomit.'  Well, I say, it might as well be.  Eww.)

BLOG 1/20/12: School Is In Session

Where does the time go?!  Sofia is already over a month old!  We had her one month check up at Park Ridge Pediatrics last week and all is well!  Little girl is nearly 10 pounds now!  She's eating well and growing -- noticably.

1. She used to have plenty of head and foot room in her changing table.  Now, she stretches across the entire thing.

2. Her swing used to be an easy way to get her to sleep.  Now she's a kid who immediately wants the lights and music on.  Pretty soon she'll be saying "faster!"

3. We bought a carseat cover for her a while back.  She hated it because the zipper hung right over her face and would often rest on her nose.  We took it off for a week or so the put it back on this past week.  The zipper hangs on the lower part of her neck now!  She kinda likes the cover now.

I've always heard that having a baby is nothing like having TWO babies.  Well, we've got THREE now!  I have a feeling that Daddy is about to get schooled!

I'll be sure and share my lessons with you.  This might be especially good for other dads to pay attention to, so ladies, send your man a link to this page!

Triplets?!?!?!?!?

No, not triplets.  Madison was born in 2007, Brennan in 2008, and Sofia, of course, in 2011.  But don't they all look exactly the same?!

Sofia's Smile

There's something extra special about the first smile caught in a picture.  This one was taken in the middle of the night!
